With a short while to go to the first concert on Friday 25 July (Emma Johnson and Andrew West - sorry, tickets all sold) we look forward immensely to the rest of the Festival 08 concerts.
If you act immediately you may get one of the very few tickets left for Rigoletto. This promises to be a great night with a large audience in St. Peter's and top class soloists and musicians under conductor Paul Foster.
The Henschel Quartet is one of Europe's finest. Coming from Vienna they visit Budleigh to play a lovely programme of music by Mendelssohn, Shostakovitch and Schubert. The quartet performs regularly in prestigious chamber music events worldwide. There are still tickets available for this concert (7.30pm Thursday 31 July tickets from the TIC or at the door)..
If chamber music is not your interest then what about coming to and evening with Ellingtonia - a stunning nine-piece band devoted to playing the music of Duke Ellington? At the festival they will play at 8pm on Thursday 31 July at the Games Club (this venue is used by the Festival for the first time and very comfortable and pleasant it is. Tickets are selling fast but there is space yet available. (tickets from Tony Dealler at the Games club or from the TIC)
To end the 8 days we have two wonderful concerts on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd August both at St. Peter's. The orchestral performance will include many favourite pieces including Purcell, Vivaldi, J. S. Bach and Haydn. The soloist in two of the four Seasons is young local violinist Marie Langrishe. It ends with Haydn's Mass in Time of War, colloquially known as the Nelson Mass.
Finally there is an unique opportunity to hear both Stravinsky's and Walton's works on the same programme. The Soldiers Tale is narrated and acted by members of the Cygnet theatre with Alistair Ganley and Mary Evans producing. Sophie Pinder-White is the dancer. After the interval we present that iconic piece of the 1920s - Facade- with Katie Derham and Richard Baker reciting and Ben Palmer conducting. Not to be missed and there are still tickets available for this event.
'Sound the Trumpet' is nearly sold out now so you may already have missed the chance of hearing the two great counter tenors James Bowman and Nicholas Clapton and friends in this evening of music from Purcell through to contemporary composers. Hurry to reserve on of the few seats left!
There are also a few tickets available for the Gerald Dickens performance at restored Salem Chapel and for the Lee Ford garden conducted tours. Gerald acting as Wackford Squeers is not to be missed
Lots of our friends are eagerly awaiting the appearance of two well-known male choirs - our own Budleigh Salterton singers and the visiting Mevagissey Male Choir. Tickets are selling fast for these events. Both are at the Temple Church.
There will be children's events in plenty. The Exmouth Shantymen are at the Longboat Cafe and there is drama and music for all ages including a great theatre workshop given by ICOS. Reservation bookings are invited though but there is no charge.
Also for no charge is entry to our 8 lunchtime concerts at the Temple Church. Just come at 12 noon to enjoy a great variety of ensembles and solo players and join the increasing group of music-lovers with 45 minutes to spare around lunchtime.
ICOS will start booking shortly for their summer season at the Public. If you like 'hoofing' and singing 'On the Town' is the show for you. Starts on Wednesday 30 July and continues for 10 days.
Tickets including credit card booking (new this year) for all the above from the TIC. Don't delay though because our reputation is reaching places well outside the town and even East Devon.
